"W5 has over 250 interactive exhibits which cover many curriculum areas such as science, technology, art & design, geography, mathematics, ICT and english. They are organised into four main exhibition areas DISCOVERY (for under 8's only), GO, SEE/DO (8 Years +). The exhibits are designed to develop children's understanding and encourage thinking and problem solving skills. We also have a new exhibit “Climbit”  Climbit is a unique, visually elegant, three dimensional sculpture specially designed for climbing.  Oval platforms let children traverse over and under and through an amazing structure.  Details of the exhibits in the different areas and links to the curriculum can be found on our website."

Making Bean Supports at An Creagan

Five times in An Creagan, and it just gets better. As part of the Not Back To School Celebrations we will be having autumnal fun in the Wild Woods. There will be marshmallows to toast, the normal chaos and mess to create and plenty of opportunity to learn and play together.

We will go ahead in all weathers, bring appropriate gear and something to change into for the way home.

Wild Times in the Wild Woods, with optional bog walk

Tue, 21/07/2015 - 11:00am - 3:00pm
Location:
An Creagan
Round the fire at An Creagan

The fourth meeting of the dusty-bottomed children of the wild woods.  We love this place and always have a wonderful time there.  There will be all the fun of the wild woods, including a fire and marshmallows to toast, ponds to dip, banks to dig and climb, trees to paint and the wonderful tree house.

Peter has also offered to take those who are interested on a short hike to see the forest and bog, which will be wonderful at that time of year - those who would rather stay in the wild woods are welcome to do so (we can organise child care for families who have a difference of opinion between us).

We will go ahead in ALL WEATHERS, mud is just another sort of fun.  Bring wet weather gear, sun cream and all other options!

Tour of Cathaleen Falls Hyrdo Electric Station

Tue, 26/05/2015 - 11:00am - 12:30pm
Location:
Cathaleen Falls, Ballyshannon

Cathaleen's Fall

Booking essential. Please let us know if you would like to come. Arrive 11/11:15 to start the hour-long tour at 11;30.

"The construction of the Erne Hydro Electric Scheme after the Second World War was a major boost for County Donegal. The development prompted a building boom in the region which saw an employment increase surge in construction bringing engineers, electricians and other hydro-specialists from both at home and abroad to the town of Ballyshannon when work began in 1946.

At Ballyshannon, and on the stretch of the River between the sea, the natural fall of water is 45m, which makes the Erne catchment the perfect location to house the hydro-electric dams. The River Erne itself is 60 miles long and is the second largest river system in Ireland. From its source at Slieve Clah in County Cavan (200m above sea level), it winds its way through Loughs Gowna, Oughter, Upper and Lower Erne before it enters the Belleek Channel. Two power stations were built on the river – one at Cliff and a larger at Cathaleen's Fall. They were commissioned in November 1951 and April 1952 respectively.

ESB is offering FREE guided tours of the Cathaleen's Fall Generating Station which is located in Ballyshannon in County Donegal."
