Home educating families had two fantastic workshops at Armagh Planetarium this morning.

The children were split into older and younger groups, they made rockets from plastic bottles and paper that they launched outside by filling with water and blasting.

In the older group, this was followed by investigating the differences between a normal Earth rock and a meteorite that landed on earth from space. One of them being very heavy and the other light.

The kids then got to watch a space movie in the dome.

The older kids movie followed an alien families journey to all the main planets trying to find a holiday destination. The kids picked up lots of useful facts about the habitats of various planets.

We also learnt that golf is the only sport ever played on the moon!

The children especially enjoyed the virtual space roller coaster at the end!

This was followed by a tour of the planetarium with the tour guide giving us lots of information about the space station and how astronauts function day to day in space.

All in all a fantastic educational opportunity for our young people.
